Diabetic Neuropathy Test in India

A diabetic neuropathy test in India is a quick, painless check that measures whether diabetes has damaged the nerves in your feet, using a monofilament and vibration test. At EDFC, Dr. Ashutosh Shah's team uses it to detect loss of protective sensation early  the single biggest warning sign before a foot ulcer.

What is a diabetic neuropathy test?

A diabetic neuropathy test checks the small and large nerves that carry sensation from your feet. When high blood sugar damages these nerves, you slowly lose the ability to feel pain, heat, or pressure so a blister or cut can go unnoticed until it becomes a serious wound.

This loss of feeling is common and often silent. Roughly half of people with long-standing diabetes develop nerve damage, and many have no symptoms at first, according to the CDC. At EDFC India's first chain of clinics dedicated to foot care  testing is led by Dr. Ashutosh Shah (M.S., M.Ch.) across Surat (Gujarat) and Vizianagaram (Andhra Pradesh).

Who needs a neuropathy test?

  • Numbness, tingling, burning, or "pins and needles" in the feet
  • Feet that feel less sensitive to heat, cold, or pain
  • Unexplained cuts or blisters you didn't feel happen
  • Diabetes for 5+ years, or poorly controlled blood sugar
  • Balance problems or a change in how you walk

When to see a doctor in India: if you notice new numbness or a wound you didn't feel, book a test promptly. A neuropathy test is also part of every yearly comprehensive foot evaluation.

What happens during the test

  • 10g monofilament test — a soft nylon fibre is pressed on set points to check protective sensation.
  • Vibration test — a tuning fork or biothesiometer measures how well you feel vibration.
  • Pinprick & temperature — checks small-fibre nerve function.
  • Reflexes — the ankle reflex is checked.
  • Result & plan — we explain your sensation status and protective steps for high-risk feet.
