Foot Arthritis
Arthritis in the foot and ankle joints causes pain, stiffness and, over time, deformity that can alter pressure points relevant to diabetic foot care.
Foot Arthritis Treatment in India
Foot arthritis is wear or inflammation of the foot's joints, causing stiffness, pain, and swelling that make walking harder. At EDFC, foot arthritis is managed with supportive footwear, orthotics, and activity guidance, with surgery considered for severe joint damage — and with extra attention when the foot is also at diabetic risk.
What is foot arthritis?
Arthritis means joint inflammation or degeneration. The foot has many small joints, and arthritis there — most commonly wear-and-tear osteoarthritis, sometimes inflammatory types — causes pain, stiffness, and swelling. Over time it can change the foot's shape and the way you walk. In a diabetic foot, arthritis-related deformity can also create new pressure points that need watching.
Signs to watch for
- Pain and stiffness in foot or ankle joints, worse with activity
- Swelling or warmth over a joint
- Reduced movement or a grinding sensation
- Difficulty walking or a changed gait
- Gradual change in foot shape
When to see a doctor in India: persistent joint pain, swelling, or stiffness that limits walking should be assessed — and any foot deformity in diabetes deserves review for pressure risk.
Why it happens
Osteoarthritis comes from years of joint wear, prior injury, or deformity; inflammatory arthritis comes from conditions affecting the joints. Foot mechanics and previous fractures can accelerate it.
How EDFC helps with foot arthritis
- Supportive footwear — cushioned, stable shoes to ease joint load.
- Orthotics — custom support to offload painful joints.
- Activity & pressure guidance — protecting joints and at-risk skin.
- Surgery — correction for severe deformity or joint damage.
