Fat Restoration

Restoring the foot’s natural cushioning to prevent pressure ulcers.

Heel Fat Pad Reconstruction in India

Heel fat pad reconstruction in India restores the natural cushion under the foot  often using the patient's own fat to relieve pain and reduce the high pressure that causes ulcers. At EDFC, Dr. Ashutosh Shah uses fat restoration to rebuild padding where the heel or sole has thinned and lost its protective layer.

What is fat pad restoration?

The heel and ball of the foot have a built-in fat pad that absorbs shock with every step. In diabetes, this pad can thin or shift (fat pad atrophy), leaving bone close to the skin. The result is pain on standing and high-pressure points that break down into ulcers. Fat restoration rebuilds this cushion  commonly by harvesting a small amount of the patient's own fat and grafting it under the heel or sole.

The goal is to bring back protective padding so the foot can bear weight comfortably and is less likely to ulcerate. It is an emerging, restorative option, and because grafted fat can partly settle over time, the team will set realistic expectations and may stage treatment. At EDFC  India's first chain dedicated to foot care  this is performed by Dr. Ashutosh Shah (M.S., M.Ch.) in Surat (Gujarat) and Vizianagaram (Andhra Pradesh).

Who might benefit?

  • Pain under the heel or ball of the foot when standing or walking
  • Thinning of the natural foot cushion (fat pad atrophy)
  • Recurrent ulcers over a bony pressure point with little padding
  • A scarred area that has lost its protective fat after a healed wound

When to see a doctor in India: if a pressure point keeps ulcerating because there is little cushioning left, ask whether restoring the fat pad could help — often alongside offloading measures.

What the procedure involves

  • Assessment — identifying where padding is lost and pressure is high.
  • Fat harvest — a small amount of the patient's own fat is gently collected.
  • Preparation — the fat is processed for grafting.
  • Grafting — fat is placed under the heel or pressure point to rebuild the cushion.
  • Recovery & review — offloading and follow-up to assess the restored padding.

Why choose EDFC in India

  • Specialty technique — fat grafting within Dr. Shah's M.Ch. reconstructive field.
  • Dedicated foot care — India's first chain built only for foot and ulcer care.
  • Realistic guidance — honest expectations about results and staging.
  • Two branches — Surat, Gujarat and Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh.
