Comprehensive Foot Evaluation

A head-to-toe assessment of the diabetic foot and its risk factors.

Comprehensive Diabetic Foot Evaluation in India

A comprehensive diabetic foot evaluation in India is a single-visit examination that checks your feet for nerve damage, poor circulation, skin problems, and pressure points before they become ulcers. At EDFC, Dr. Ashutosh Shah's team uses it to assign your foot-risk grade and build a prevention plan you can follow.

What is a comprehensive diabetic foot evaluation?

A comprehensive diabetic foot evaluation combines four checks in one appointment: a neurological (nerve) test, a vascular (circulation) test, a skin and structure review, and footwear assessment. Together they reveal the silent damage diabetes causes long before pain appears.

India has an estimated 101 million adults living with diabetes (ICMR-INDIAB national study, 2023), and most foot complications start without symptoms. People with diabetes face a lifetime foot-ulcer risk of up to around one in three which is why a yearly evaluation is the foundation of foot care at EDFC, India's first chain of clinics dedicated to foot care, led by Dr. Ashutosh Shah (M.S., M.Ch.) across Surat (Gujarat) and Vizianagaram (Andhra Pradesh).

Who needs a comprehensive foot evaluation?

Book an evaluation if you have diabetes and any of the following:

  • Diabetes for several years, or blood sugar that is hard to control
  • Numbness, tingling, or burning in the feet
  • Dry, cracked skin, calluses, or slow-healing cuts
  • Cold feet, weak pulses, or leg pain on walking
  • A past foot ulcer, infection, or amputation

When to see a doctor in India: every person with diabetes should have a full foot evaluation at least once a year, and more often if a problem is found. Any new wound, swelling, or colour change should be checked promptly.

What happens during the evaluation

  • History & risk review — diabetes duration, control, past wounds, footwear.
  • Skin & nail check — for cracks, calluses, infection, and early ulcers.
  • Nerve test — 10g monofilament and vibration testing for loss of sensation (see our neuropathy assessment).
  • Circulation test — foot pulses and, where needed, an ankle brachial index check.
  • Structure & pressure — deformities and high-pressure zones (see pressure & biomechanical assessment).
  • Risk grade & plan — your foot is graded low to high risk with clear next steps.
