Diabetic Foot Surgery
Surgery focused on saving the foot — limb salvage before amputation.
Diabetic foot surgery in India is performed to save the limb — removing infection, correcting deformity, and reconstructing wounds so that, wherever possible, major amputation is avoided. At EDFC, surgery is led by a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and used only when non-surgical care cannot heal the foot.
What is diabetic foot surgery?
Diabetic foot surgery covers a range of limb-salvage procedures: removing infected or dead tissue, draining abscesses, correcting bone deformities that cause pressure ulcers, releasing tight tendons, and reconstructing wounds with skin and tissue. When part of the foot cannot be saved, surgery is planned to preserve as much functional foot as possible so you can still walk.
Because diabetes is the leading cause of non-traumatic lower-limb amputation, the aim of every operation at EDFC is the opposite — to keep you away from a major amputation by acting decisively and early.
When is foot surgery needed for diabetics?
- Deep or spreading infection not controlled by antibiotics
- Infection that has reached the bone (osteomyelitis)
- Dead tissue or gangrene
- Deformities, such as Charcot foot, causing repeated ulcers
- Wounds too large or deep to heal with dressings alone
Surgery is always preceded by a full assessment, and many patients first try non-surgical wound care. Complex wounds may also need reconstructive surgery to close.
Why choose EDFC for diabetic foot surgery in India?
Surgery at EDFC is performed by Dr. Ashutosh Shah (M.S., M.Ch.), a plastic and reconstructive surgeon with more than 22 years of experience focused on diabetic limb salvage. As India's first dedicated foot-care chain, EDFC combines surgical skill with wound care, offloading and rehabilitation so the foot not only heals but stays healed, with care available in Surat and Vizianagaram.
