Many diabetic foot ulcers in India can be healed without surgery when they are treated early and correctly. At EDFC, non-surgical treatment combines wound-bed preparation, advanced dressings, infection control, offloading and regenerative therapies to close wounds and protect the limb — keeping surgery for only the cases that truly need it.
Can a diabetic foot ulcer be treated without surgery?
Yes. A large share of diabetic foot ulcers respond to structured non-surgical care: cleaning and debriding the wound, choosing the right advanced dressing, controlling infection, taking pressure off the wound (offloading), and using therapies such as PRP, negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) and laser to speed healing. The goal is to heal the ulcer, stop infection reaching the bone, and avoid amputation.
With an estimated 101 million Indians living with diabetes (ICMR-INDIAB, 2023), non-healing foot wounds are common — but early, expert wound care strongly improves the odds of saving the foot.
Who needs non-surgical wound management?
- A diabetic foot ulcer or non-healing wound
- A wound that has not improved after two to four weeks of basic care
- Redness, swelling, discharge or odour from a foot wound
- A previous ulcer that has returned
- Pressure wounds caused by footwear or deformity
Treatment begins only after a full diabetic foot assessment to check circulation and infection. Where blood supply is poor, vascular treatment may be coordinated first so the wound can heal.
